Farm & Legacy Films

Every farm has a story that belongs to more than one generation.

The land that was broken by hand. The years that almost ended everything. The decisions that were made at kitchen tables and never written down. The knowledge that lives in one person and nowhere else.

Right now across the prairies the largest intergenerational transfer of agricultural land in Canadian history is underway. Families are changing hands. Elders are getting older. The stories that hold everything together are at risk of disappearing.

A farm legacy film captures what can't be captured any other way — the voice, the face, the words of the people who built something from nothing on this land. Not for marketing. Not for social media. For the family. Forever.

This is the most important film you will ever commission. We treat it that way.

Service Overview

Prairie Wave makes documentary and story-driven video for the people, organizations, and communities of rural western Canada. We work across five areas; documentary film, founder and leadership content, corporate and organizational video, drone and aerial production, and farm and legacy films. Every project is different. Every story requires its own approach.

Our Process

We don't start with a shot list. We start with a conversation.

You tell us what you're trying to say. We figure out the best way to say it on film. Then we show up, on your land, in your community, inside your organization and we stay until something real happens.

We handle everything. Concept, production, editing, delivery. You don't need to manage the process. You just need to be ready to tell your story.

1 Listen

We start by hearing your story. What you've built, why it matters, what needs to be captured.

Plan

We figure out the right approach for your project. One day or several. Interview-driven or observational. Whatever serves the story.

Shoot

We come to you. We work on your ground, in your world, with your people.

Deliver

Edited with care. On time. Something you're proud to show.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depends on the scope. A founder content day turns around in two to three weeks. A documentary film takes six to eight weeks. We'll give you a straight answer once we know what you need.
